An estimated 8.8% of residents in the Seattle metro area lived below the poverty line last year, according to newly released census data.
That's a higher share than in 2019, when 7.8% of area residents met the federal poverty threshold.
Context: The Census Bureau defined someone as living below the poverty line if they made less than about $16,000 as an individual, or less than $31,812 as a family of four with two children.
