Seattle violent crime trends down despite weekend shooting

Zoom in: As of April 25, violent crime in Seattle was down about 20% compared with the same period in 2024, per the police department's crime dashboard.

The big picture: Last year, King County saw a notable decrease in gun violence, the first drop in six years, according to King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion.

What's next: In response to the shooting, police have increased patrols in Pioneer Square and will have more officers visible citywide as the season ramps up for tourism, sports and concerts, said Barnes.
