Washington is one of only a handful of U.S. states where more than 40% of municipal officeholders are women, a new report finds.
The big picture: The Evergreen State now ranks sixth when it comes to gender parity among locally elected officials, per the report released last month by the Center for Women and Politics at Rutgers University.
By the numbers: In Washington, women hold 41.1% of municipal offices this year, the center's analysis found.
That's well above the national average of 32.4%.
How it works: The Rutgers center looked at incorporated cities with over 10,000 people, which included 95 cities in Washington.
State of play: States with higher percentages of women in local elected offices included Hawaii (44.4%); Nevada (44.3%), Oregon (42.9%); Arizona (42.9%); and Colorado (42.6%).
