Why Mount Rainier and Mount Hood are feuding online

Social media users are escalating the long-simmering battle between Washington and Oregon into an all-out roast session, turning some of the Pacific Northwest's most majestic peaks into the sassiest of rivals.

The big picture: Parody accounts from Mount Rainier and Mount Hood are trading playful taunts and humorous one-upmanship, comparing body counts and jesting about whether size matters.

What they're saying: "Rainier, you're the volcanic equivalent of a dude at a party with an acoustic guitar … self-serving and cringey," said Mt. Hood Adventures on TikTok.

"Sit down, Mt Hood, you're not tall enough to ride this ride," posted Visit Mount Rainier.

State of play: As the drama unfolds, battle lines — and unlikely alliances — are being drawn among West Coast landmarks.

Mount Rainier refused to join team Yellowstone, turning down a proposed trade involving Mount Hood and calling out Yellowstone's history of "being mean to everyone."
A coalition has formed between Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, and Olympic National Park, with some members proposing friendship bracelets to solidify their bond.
Mount Hood isn't fazed, claiming everyone is just jealous.

What we're watching: At this rate, the next eruption among these feuding volcanic siblings may not be from tectonic pressure but from petty rivalry.
