A rare Malayan tapir calf was born Sunday at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, marking just the second tapir birth in the Tacoma zoo's 120-year history.
Why it matters: Malayan tapirs are endangered, with populations declining due to habitat loss.
State of play: The 20-pound calf sports white spots and stripes and resembles "a tiny walking watermelon," the zoo said in a statement.
What's next: Visitors can expect to see the young tapir this spring.
