Egg prices spike in Seattle amid avian flu outbreak

• At the Amazon Fresh grocery store in Seattle's Central District, many cartons of Grade A eggs were sold out Tuesday, with notices posted about the nationwide shortage.
• A brand of free-range organic eggs that sold for under $5 per dozen in early December was going for $6.99 per dozen Tuesday.
• One carton of store brand eggs cost $5.09 a dozen; another was $4.99.
• "It's like they're made of gold," a nearby shopper remarked.
