Seeking tips on wolf killers

Federal and state officials are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction in the illegal killings of two gray wolves.

Why it matters: Gray wolves are listed as endangered by the state and under the federal Endangered Species Act.

Driving the news: Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife staff are investigating the deaths of two adult gray wolves found this month in Klickitat County and Okanogan County, according to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS).

Catch up quick: Earlier this year, members of the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission elected to keep gray wolves on the state's "endangered" list rather than downgrade them to a "sensitive" species.

• The move would have reduced wolf-poaching penalties and eased permit access for livestock owners to kill wolves threatening herds.
