Somebody told me the best milkshakes in the state were at Clarks Restaurant in Artic, south of Aberdeen, and my family was skeptical.
- But we had a chance to check it out on a recent road trip to Long Beach — and we're believers now.
State of play: Owned by the Creamer family since 1997, Clarks has won "Best of Twin Harbors" 14 times for their burgers, while their fries, pies, and homemade soups have plenty of loyal fans too.
- But the milkshakes, made with their homemade vanilla base, are the real stars.
- Chocolate, strawberry, blackberry, and banana are among the most popular flavors, Landon Creamer told Axios, but there are around 30 to choose from.
Dig in: My son Grant — a self-proclaimed cynic who once wrote a letter to Santa addressed to "Dear Fakey" — came away impressed after trying three flavors: strawberry, mint Oreo, and marshmallow.
- With its real fruit, perfect consistency and delicious cream base, the strawberry was "unexpectedly delicious" and his clear favorite, he said.
- Another customer told us she orders based on the season, choosing pumpkin during her most recent visit.
If you go: Hours are 10am-7pm daily.
