👋 Melissa here. I went in-person last weekend to check out the new Overlook Walk, the pedestrian-only bridge that connects Pike Place Market to the Seattle waterfront.
And I did an experiment: I brought a stroller to the market (something I never do) to see if I could easily walk with it all the way down to the water.
Zoom in: The new walkway makes for a much more stroller-friendly approach than the elevators and stairs I typically use.
At some point, though, I did have to use an elevator for the last leg of the descent.
That said, the expansive view of downtown was something Seattleites haven't had since the Alaskan Way Viaduct was demolished in 2019.
You actually get a better view of the cityscape than you did while driving on the viaduct, in my opinion (and you don't have to be in a car).
The verdict: It's a nice addition — and far more friendly for people using strollers and wheelchairs than the previous setup.
But I think I will resume strapping my baby to my chest during future visits, so I can more thoroughly enjoy the view and sit on one of the Overlook Walk's impressive sets of steps facing the water.
