It takes a special stack of pancakes to get me to come back and eat them two days in a row. Capitol Hill's Finch & Pine is where I found them — and they happen to be vegan.
Zoom in: Finch & Pine's food menu is dairy-free, with many items containing zero animal products.
Yes, but: Because the cozy, neighborhood spot still serves milk with coffee drinks and offers eggs with many dishes, it's a great spot to go when not every member of your group follows a vegan diet.
Dig in: My nonvegan companions were pleased with the vegan biscuits, which you can order with whipped plant butter and sweet jam or with eggs and mushroom gravy.
- We also devoured the summer harvest tartine, which layered bright pistachio pesto, heirloom tomatoes and cashew cream cheese over sourdough bread. (Expect a fall tartine to replace this one in October.)
- The star for us, though, was the vegan blueberry pancakes, which were exploding with fresh berries and light and airy, with just the right amount of sweetness.
If you go: Finch & Pine serves weekday breakfast (which is sometimes difficult to find in Seattle), as well as dinner and weekend brunch.
- The patio is great for sunny days, but there are cozy nooks inside, too.
- Carpooling, walking or taking transit is a good idea, as parking isn't always easy on this part of Capitol Hill.
Stop by: 7am-3pm Monday through Friday; 9am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Dinner from 5-9pm Friday and Saturday.
