It's hard to trick you all.
Everyone who responded to our question last month about where we were got it right.
We were at Fort Flagler on Marrowstone Island in Jefferson County.
Less well-known and visited than it's sibling, Fort Worden, Flagler also has gun batteries, bunkers and military buildings as well as docking, hiking trails, campsites and a museum.

Fort Flagler, Fort Worden and Fort Casey, at Admiralty Head on Whidbey Island, together formed the "Triangle of Fire," according to HistoryLink, that could in theory prevent enemy vessels from entering Admiralty Inlet.
Kudos to Jennifer H., Meg W. and Alan S. for being the first to reply!
