You can now get from downtown Seattle to Lynnwood in an estimated 32 minutes by train, taking the new Sound Transit light rail route that opened late last week.
Why it matters: The Line 1 extension to Lynnwood — which includes stops in Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline — has been more than 15 years in the making.
It's part of Sound Transit's long-range plan to grow the region's light rail system from 26 miles as of 2022 to about 116 miles by 2041.
Catch up quick: The Lynnwood extension opened with great fanfare on Friday, with balloons, a ribbon-cutting and lots of smiling public officials.
Riders can also now take the train from Lynnwood to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which is about a 70-minute ride.
What's next: Sound Transit officials expect ridership on the Lynnwood extension to grow to about 50,000 riders per day by the end of the year.
