Which foods King County restaurant inspectors avoid

Zoom in: Last year, King County conducted 37 foodborne illness investigations, and 27 of them were linked to oysters, according to a recent blog post from Public Health – Seattle & King County.

• The county sees more cases of vibriosis from oysters in the summer and fall, when the waters warm up, but officials say the risk of contracting norovirus from oysters is steady all year.

Eggs Benedict is another menu item some inspectors avoid, given the risk of salmonella from undercooked eggs.

• One inspector says he's "sent many plates back due to runny egg whites (not yolks), which are a particular risk," per the county's blog post.

Undercooked hamburgers are another food that inspectors watch out for (due to the risk of E. coli), along with sprouts.

• "One inspector cited seeing too many foodborne illness outbreaks related to raw or undercooked sprouts (often alfalfa or mung bean sprouts)," the blog post said.
