Democratic socialist leads in central Seattle legislative race

State of play: In last week's top-two primary, Scott had amassed about 59% of the vote to Suarez's 20% as of Saturday.

• Both candidates appear as if they will move on to the general election.
• They are competing to represent the 43rd Legislative District, which includes Capitol Hill, part of the University District, Fremont, Wallingford, Laurelhurst, Madison Park and much of downtown.

Between the lines: Scott winning more than 50% of the primary vote means he is in an especially strong position to win the seat in November, Crystal Fincher, a political consultant who often works with Democrats, told Axios.

What they're saying: One day after the primary, Scott told his followers on X that the results made clear that the district's voters "want a Washington State Legislature that shows up for them as much as we've shown up for ourselves these last four years."

• Suarez, meanwhile, wrote on X last week that she's going "full steam" ahead campaigning for the general election, "having earned enough votes to make it through."
