A kinkajou that was abandoned at a rest stop last week was hungry and thin but is now eating heartily, according to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
State of play: The animal underwent a comprehensive exam by the zoo's head veterinarian, who determined he was in fair health overall.
He weighed only 2.5 pounds, but his appetite is good, per the zoo. The normal weight for an adult male is 3 to 10 pounds.
Catch up quick: Kinkajous are an arboreal species in the raccoon family native to South and Central America.
What's next: The animal will continue to be cared for behind the scenes while staff works to find him a permanent home at a zoo or a sanctuary, Point Defiance spokesperson Tessa Miller told Axios.
