A new batch of bars and restaurants is set to open across San Antonio, spanning established neighborhoods and emerging districts.
Why it matters: San Antonio's growth is reshaping its food and drink scene, absorbing new influences without fully shedding what makes the city feel like itself.
Zoom in: Over Under is one of the latest bars planned in the ever-growing Southtown neighborhood. The Cevallos Street spot joins a stretch of nearby favorites, including Leche de Tigre, La Tuna and 1919.
- The bar is owned by Michael McKinney and Kristofer Torres, former employees of beloved bygone bars Blue Box and Francis Bogside, where they helped build a service-driven culture.
- Over Under is expected to open by February.

The vibe: McKinney tells Axios the team is leaning into that same service-forward approach, describing Over Under as a hybrid space — casual and approachable enough for a neighborhood hangout, but polished enough for date nights that linger.
What they're saying: "It has been a dream of mine to put a contribution into the city I grew up in," McKinney says.
Zoom out: On Broadway, Houston-based Adair Kitchen is expected to open in the former Jim's in the coming weeks, followed by Tex-Mex staple Los Tios in the former La Madeleine later this summer.
- Downtown: The Monarch is set to debut near Hemisfair in March, bringing two new concepts with it — the Texas-inspired anchor restaurant Oak & Amber, and Aleteo, a Yucatán-influenced rooftop spot. The St. Anthony Hotel is also preparing to open Esencia early this year.

- Stone Oak: New American restaurant Katerina is slated to open this month in the former Frida's space.
- Southtown: Casa Hernán is preparing to reopen after a makeover led by chef Johnny Hernandez, with a mid-February return planned.
Go deeper: Mexico Ceaty, the long-planned overhaul of the Shops at Rivercenter's food court, is expected to open in April.
