Salt Lake City will see "very little relief" as heatwave persists

Salt Lakers may want to crank up the A/C or head to a public pool to cool off this week as an ongoing heat wave keeps temperatures in the upper 90s and low 100s through the rest of the week, according to the forecast.

What they're saying: "There's just going to be very little relief from the heat, which is particularly problematic for people who have a higher risk for heat sensitivity," Sam Webber, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service's Salt Lake City office, tells Axios.

This week's overnight low temperatures will also remain high, in the low to mid-70s.
The heat wave is caused by a high-pressure system just east of the Four Corners region.

Zoom in: Temperatures are expected to reach 97°F on Wednesday, followed by highs of 100°F on Thursday and 102°F on Friday.

Saturday's high is forecasted to hit 106°F, about 10 degrees above average for this time of year, Webber says.

On Monday night, the city recorded its highest minimum temperature of 82°F, matching a record set in 2021 and 2023.
