New Salt Lake City trail features Utah's longest public art

• City officials say it's the "longest continuous public art installation" in the state.
• The artwork's colors are based on the area's landscape and neighborhood.

State of play: The 400 South Viaduct Trail bridge, which runs above the railroad tracks, aims to better connect the city's east and west sides.

What they're saying: "For west-side residents, this trail means a safer, more direct way to reach downtown, school, work, parks, and more without needing a car," Mayor Erin Mendenhall said in a statement.

• Mendenhall noted the pathway was previously "unsafe and unwelcoming" for pedestrians.
