Utah Sen. Lee calls for "public" execution of man charged in Charlie Kirk's death

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) on Tuesday called for the execution of the man accused — but not yet tried — in last September's fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk.

What they're saying: "Execute Tyler Robinson," Lee posted from his @BasedMikeLee account on X. "In public."

It's not the first time the senator called for Robinson's public execution. He also posted, "Tyler Robinson publicly executed Charlie Kirk ... Tyler Robinson should be publicly executed," last Friday.

Context: Lee made the latest comments following a Fox News story about a court filing in which Kirk's widow, Erika, sought a speedy trial for Robinson.

Robinson faces a first-degree felony count of aggravated murder and other charges in Kirk's death.
Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty.

The other side: Robinson's attorneys have argued that comments by public officials may prejudice potential jurors.
