Victoria Petro clings to slim lead in council race

Salt Lake City Council Member Victoria Petro widened her lead over her challenger, consultant Stephen Otterstrom, up by 114 votes in the two-way race to represent the west side, according to unofficial results posted Thursday evening.

The big picture: While incumbents Chris Wharton and Sarah Young, who ran unopposed, sailed to reelection Tuesday, Petro's path to victory remains unclear.

State of play: Under rank choice voting, the candidate who receives over 50% of the vote wins.

What we're watching: Election results are set to be certified by Nov. 18.
