A new immersive Titanic exhibit will open in Sandy next month, allowing visitors to experience the doomed voyage from a passenger's perspective.
State of play: "The Titanic: Exhibition" gives visitors a tour through reconstructed sets — like the ship's dock, grand staircase and deck illuminated by a "starry" night sky — along with hundreds of artifacts from the ill-fated vessel and its survivors.
- When you enter, you are given a boarding pass with the name of a real passenger.
- Props and costumes from the 1997 Hollywood blockbuster, "Titanic," will also be featured.
- A "Discovery Gallery" will focus on the findings and research of the shipwreck site.
Catch up quick: The Titanic, which carried 2,240 passengers and crew, sank after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 during its maiden voyage from England to New York City.
- More than 1,500 people died.
- Most of the ship remains on the ocean floor, according to NOAA. The wreckage was discovered in 1985.
What to know: Tickets went on sale Tuesday.
- The interactive exhibit is set to open Oct. 17 at The Shops at South Town in Sandy for a limited time. It's unclear how long the attraction will run.
- Tours are expected to last between 60-90 minutes.
- The exhibit most recently toured in Chicago and Dallas.
