Utah House Dems advised to cancel events after Charlie Kirk shooting

• At least two members of Congress — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) — canceled events after the shooting.

State of play: Romero told Axios Salt Lake City that Utah House Democrats' main office received a profanity-laced voicemail on Wednesday, blaming Democrats for Kirk's death.

• Romero, who serves as president of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, said she intended to canvass her district on Friday to hear from constituents about the legislative session and answer questions about the state's redistricting process.
• She canceled soon after receiving the voicemail and hostile emails.

What they're saying: "After that voicemail, it's better to spend time with your family and be surrounded by people you love, because it's tough out there right now when it comes to discussing policy," she said.

• In a statement to Axios, Utah Senate chief of staff Mark Thomas said "we are in ongoing communication with [Utah Highway Patrol] and other relevant partners," but declined to comment on specific security measures.

• A spokesperson for the Utah Democratic Party said no major, planned weekend events will be rescheduled.

The Utah Republican Party did not respond to Axios' request for comment.

• It's unclear whether Republicans are cancelling any events following Wednesday's fatal shooting.
