Charlie Kirk's casket to be flown to Phoenix on Air Force Two

The casket of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, will be flown to Phoenix, Arizona aboard Air Force Two, according to two sources close to the situation who asked not to be identified.

State of play: The casket will be carried by plane after Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance visit Salt Lake City Thursday to meet with Kirk's family and close friends, the sources told Axios.

The news was first reported by CBS.
The Vances were previously scheduled to attend a 9/11 remembrance event in New York City.
Kirk's family and friends will join the flight.

Context: Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA, a youth activist organization, in 2012. In 2018, Turning Point moved its national headquarters from suburban Chicago to Phoenix.
