The Salt Lake City Council on Tuesday signed off on $44.2 million to spruce up parks, roads and public buildings.
Why it matters: The investments underscore the city's push to update its green spaces while making streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The big picture: More than 30 projects were approved this week to receive funding under the city's 2025-26 Capital Improvement Program.
- The program funds projects that cost $50,000 or more and that are expected to last at least five years once completed.
Here are 10 notable projects receiving funding:
⚠️ Vision Zero corridors: $2.3 million to improve safety in high-crash areas as part of the city's strategy to prevent traffic fatalities and injuries.
🏞️ Accessible parks: $2.7 million to make 10 city parks ADA-compliant.
🌳 Sugar House Park enhancements: $1.1 million for what the city calls "urgent" upgrades at the popular park, including replacing Sugar Beet Pavilion and the Hidden Grove pedestrian bridge railing.
🌊 Dredging Liberty Lake: $1 million to fix the lake's aeration system and remove sediment buildup.
🛤️ Rose Park Lane glowup: $680,000 for trees, irrigation and safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists, from 1700 N. to 2100 N.
🔨 Fisher Mansion upgrades: $500,000 to improve the Fisher Mansion, as well as Fleet Block planning.
🛝 Playground shade: $500,000 for shade structures at up to five playgrounds.
🧹 Jordan River cleanup: $480,000 to "promote more positive activity" and encourage safety along a river plagued by crime and drug activity, from Concord Street to Alzheimer's Park.
🛹 Skate park expansion: $90,000 for a study and redesign of Jordan Park skate park.
🎨 Public art: $167,378 for public art at city-developed projects.
