Utah employers increasingly require AI skills

How it works: These estimates come from UMD-LinkUp AI Maps, a collaboration between the University of Maryland, job listings platform LinkUp and Outrigger Group, a consultancy and executive firm.

• Fine print: The researchers involved are using AI to analyze job postings for metros, states and nationally.

Zoom in: Researchers (or their computers) found 155 new Utah AI job postings in March — the highest since the peak in early 2022.

• Most of those — 91 — were in Salt Lake County.

• Utah had the nation's 17th highest share of job openings requiring AI skills relative to all job postings. Among metro areas, Salt Lake ranked 32nd.

Zoom out: For states, Washington had the nation's highest share of jobs requiring AI.

• San Jose, California was the metro area with the largest share.

The bottom line: If you're looking for one of these jobs, the country's long-standing tech hotspots are hard to beat — but D.C. and Dallas are promising, too.
