Sugar House Station gets rolling in the heart of SLC

• Here you can mill around with your drink and sample foods from a variety of restaurants.

What's inside: Proper Burger, Cannella's Italian and Birdhouse fried chicken were serving food, with Publik Coffee in the all-ages lobby of the historic post office building.

• The Station's central bar was open when we went last week, serving beer, wine and canned cocktails while the craft cocktail options are being developed.

Why I'm freaking out: Cannella's is back!

• I've desperately missed the classic Italian restaurant since it closed in 2020 and happily wolfed down the sausage tortellini with vodka sauce ($18).

What we're watching: Whether the owners can eventually Jenga-puzzle Utah's liquor laws to allow families in more areas — like the attractive patio.

• That's the dream, according to employees.

The latest: The food hall is hosting the Vino Vivo wine party March 31, with small bites accompanying a selection of more than 100 wines — plus an after party 'round the bar.

• Tickets: $75 for general admission (4pm-7pm), and $125 for VIP access (3pm-8pm) to the "Caviar Club" lounge with music and other entertainment.

What's next: Servers told us to expect a grand opening in April, with more eateries opening in the meantime.

• Watch for Greek Tyrant by Aristo, Santo Taco, Casot Wine Bar and Waterpocket and Sugar House distilleries to fill the stalls.

Hours: 11am-3pm Monday through Friday for now. Saturday lunch service coming soon.
