How not to break Utah laws while making out in public

What they're saying: "Lewdness is the only law you could possibly get charged with" for making out in a public place, spokesperson Keith Chalmers said.

• Also check the parking status of your location and avoid trespassing, as usual.

Red flag: Penalties escalate if kids are around.

What's inside: "A person is guilty of lewdness if the person under circumstances not amounting to [a crime involving sexual abuse] performs any of the following acts in a public place or under circumstances which the person should know will likely cause affront or alarm to, on, or in the presence of another individual," the statute reads. The list includes:

• Sexual intercourse or sodomy
• Exposing certain body parts listed in subsection 1 — genitals and the like
• Masturbation
• "Any other act of lewdness"

It's that last one that'll getcha.
