Sundance 2025 highlights diverse filmmakers

The Sundance Film Festival's 2025 slate features various works made by first-time feature filmmakers, women, people of color and the LGBTQ+ community.

By the numbers: 41% of the full-length films in the program were made by first-time feature film directors.

Zoom in: Of the 85 films selected through submissions, almost half (47%) were directed by one or more people who identify as women.

45% were directed by one or more filmmakers who identify as people of color.
29% were directed by one or more filmmakers who are LGBTQ+.
8% were directed by one or more directors living with a disability.
4% were directed by one or more filmmakers who identify as nonbinary.
2% by one or more filmmakers who are transgender.
