American Fork marching band celebrated for national ranking

The band geeks of American Fork are enjoying their day in the sun as the community celebrates its nationally recognized high school marching band.

Driving the news: AFHS won 8th place at the Bands of America Grand National Championships last weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The intrigue: Far from the '80s-movie imagery of outcasts and nerds, the band has been treated as town heroes.

The football team, usually the recipient of the band's support, famously turned up to cheer at a marching competition during the musicians' path to nationals earlier this fall.
