Battle for House District 30 could lead to flip

Unofficial results show West Valley City Council member Jake Fitisemanu leading his GOP opponent former state Rep. Fred Cox by less than 500 votes, with the potential to flip state House District 30.

The big picture: The seat, representing portions of West Valley City is currently held by outgoing GOP Rep. Judy Weeks-Rohner, who defeated her Democratic opponent in 2022 by just under 400 votes.

Cox led the district between 2015-2016.

Why it matters: The area, where Utah Democrats see potential to gain a seat in the legislature, is one of the state's most racially diverse House districts.

Zoom in: In an interview with Axios on Election Night, Fitisemanu, who works as a health program manager, said he's confident he'll maintain his lead and voters are ready for a "fresh" voice in the Utah House.

House District 10

In this competitive rematch to represent southeastern Weber County, Democrat Rep. Rosemary Lesser was ahead of Republican Jill Koford by 280 votes.

Flashback: In 2022, Lesser won her seat against Koford by 500 votes.

House District 35

Democrat Rosalba Dominguez, a Murray council member, led her GOP challenger Mike Bird, who was endorsed by Equality Utah, by 655 votes to represent parts of Murray.
