Illuminate, lanterns and art this weekend in Salt Lake

Look for bright lights and big times this weekend in Salt Lake City.

Aquarium lantern festival: The plaza at Living Planet Aquarium will light up Friday with lanterns and light displays designed like nature for the first weekend of the annual holiday lantern festival.

When: 5:30pm-10pm Nov. 8 through Jan. 6
Admission: $17.95 for adults with discounts for teens and children. Includes aquarium access most nights; check calendar for exceptions.

Navajo Rug Show: The annual fundraiser for Utah's Adopt-an-Elder nonprofit showcases authentic rugs, jewelry and crafts by Indigenous artists in a one-night online sale.

When: 6pm-8pm Friday
Where: Pieces can be previewed online, with live video Q&A here.

Illuminate: The annual light installation festival is back at Library Square, with projections on the Salt Lake City County Building, a drone show, science exhibits and live music.

When: 5-11pm Saturday
Admission: Free
