Former Jazz forward Gordon Hayward retires after 14 seasons

• His lone all-star selection came in 2016-17, his final season with the Jazz when he averaged a career best 21.9 points per game.
• That year was also the team's most successful of his seven in Salt Lake City. Still, it ended with a four-game sweep at the hands of the Golden State Warriors in the conference semifinals.

Between the lines: Hayward became an unrestricted free agent before signing with the Boston Celtics, where he suffered a gruesome injury in his first game.

• He never regained all-star form, and would go on to play three years in Boston and four in Charlotte before being traded to Oklahoma City in 2024.

What he's saying: "God has blessed me with an amazing journey, one that has taken turns I couldn't have expected or dreamed of as a kid in Brownsburg, Indiana," Hayward's statement reads.

• He said now he will focus on being a father and a husband.
