Nightingale celebrates 10 years with a tattoo pop-up

Richmond's own Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Sunday with a tattoo pop-up — and free Nightingale-themed art for a few lucky locals.
Why it matters: Businesses in other cities can celebrate anniversaries how they like, but Richmond is always going to Richmond.
State of play: Nightingale is teaming up with Black Rabbit Tattoo for its anniversary celebration and offering seven Nightingale-inspired flash tattoos for $50 — or free for the first 20 customers.
Flash tattoo options include:
- Flavored-inspired Key Lime Pie and Strawberry
- The company's OG bird logo
- And what should be everyone's personal mantra: the phrase "Spread Joy, eat ice cream"
Plus, there will be free Nightingale ice cream and swag.
Flashback: Nightingale CEO and co-founder Hannah Pollack made her first ice cream sandwich in 2015 as a summer dessert offering for now-closed Greenleaf's Pool Room, where she was executive chef.
- By the end of 2016, after a year of making them at home on the side, she and Xavier Meers — her husband, business partner and fellow chef — made the leap to small business owners, armed with $20, grit and a killer ice cream treat.
- Today, Nightingale is a multi-million dollar company, churning out half-a-million ice cream sandwiches a week and shipping them to more than 6,000 grocery stores nationwide.
- And every single one of them is still made in Richmond.
