Richmond's speakeasy-style nightclub, The Hideaway, closes suddenly

The big picture: The Hideaway is tucked inside The Park, a multi-entertainment venue that opened in 2022 and is currently undergoing a $500,000 renovation to add a second-story deck.

• To get into the speakeasy, people weave through long passageways before a door opens up to a dance floor, DJ, bar and a hookah lounge in the back.

Driving the news: In a Dec. 5 Instagram post, the Hideaway wrote "due to unforeseen circumstances" the club is closing immediately and until further notice but didn't elaborate why.

• Basim Mansour, co-owner of The Park, told Axios "It was due to the fact of the very busy holiday season and our corporate events."

Yes, but: While Mansour didn't clarify what exactly that meant to Axios, he did say there are plans for The Hideaway to reopen next year. He didn't specify a date or month by time of publication.

• "We are so grateful for [everybody's] support," Mansour said. "We just want to hold on opening until we are ready."

Meanwhile, there are nearly 200 comments underneath the Instagram post. Among them:
