North Carolina's Drift coffee chain open RTP location

The North Carolina coffee and breakfast chain Drift is opening its Research Triangle Park location today.

Why it matters: It's the 12th location for Drift, which was started a decade ago on the Carolina coast by brothers Michael and Ben Powell.

• Most of the shops are around Wilmington — where they'll start roasting their own beans next year — though there are locations in both Raleigh and Chapel Hill.

Zoom in: The new cafe is in Horseshoe at Hub RTP, where most of the retail spaces are still leasing or under construction.

• Restaurants Prime Barbecue, Cheeni, High Horse and Di Fara have all been announced as tenants, but don't yet have firm opening dates. The boutique bodega Nanny Goat is open.

What they're saying: Co-owner Michael Powell said in a press release that he hopes the new space lets people "slow down, connect and be inspired."
