Portland sports are having a moment

🌹 Playoff-bound Thorns

Portland's National Women's Soccer League team enters this weekend's quarterfinal against the third-seeded Washington Spirit with a 14-8-8 record and the No. 6 seed.

• Portland will need to lean on forwards Sophia Wilson and Pietra Tordin, who lead the team in goals and assists, respectively.

Yes, but: The Thorns haven't won a road playoff game outside the finals since 2013, per the Oregonian.

• The Spirit knocked the Thorns out of the postseason last year with a 2-0 victory.

🪚 Timbers turnaround

The Timbers' 12-14-7 record puts them in eighth place in the Major League Soccer Western Conference, but the numbers don't tell the whole story.

• Portland went seven games without a win before reeling off successive victories in their last three.
• That gives the team the chance to create their own playoff fate: A win against Austin FC this weekend guarantees them a spot in the postseason for the third straight season.

🏀 Blazers depth delivers

The Blazers entered the season facing questions about their crowded backcourt, how Damian Lillard and Ja Morant would play together and whether they could sustain last season's momentum.

• Rip City seems to have answered the doubters, so far at least, with five wins in their first six games.
• Portland's star guards seemed to mesh seamlessly before Morant got knocked out with a hamstring injury, but Scoot Henderson and Jrue Holiday have picked up the slack while he recovers.

What's next: The Timbers face Austin FC at 4pm Saturday, the Blazers play the Lakers at 7pm that evening and the Thorns face the Washington Spirit in the quarterfinals at noon Sunday.
