Oregon voters urged to mail ballots by Tuesday

State of play: Ballots in Oregon are counted for up to seven days after an election, provided they are postmarked before Election Day.

• Yes, but: Recent changes to how the Postal Service processes mail mean most ballots are postmarked the day after they're mailed.
• More than 13% of ballots received during the seven-day grace period after the May primary were rejected for late postmarks, Secretary of State Tobias Read said in a statement last month.

You can still use an official ballot drop box up until 8pm Nov. 3, which Read recommended over the postal service.

• Last month, Read secured $1.25 million in emergency funding to add new drop boxes across the state.
• Need to find one close to you? Here's a handy locator.

The bottom line: If you plan to mail your ballot, you should plan to do it by Tuesday.

• Or, better yet, do it Monday just to be sure.
