Micah Nori's introduction as the Blazers' head coach should've been celebratory, but has instead been dogged by questions about his unconventional contract.
Why it matters: It's just the latest in a series of moves by owner Tom Dundon that've raised concerns about his commitment to Rip City.
Driving the news: Nori's contract is for three years, but only the first is guaranteed, meaning the team can decide whether to renew it after the first year.
Most coaches are guaranteed at least a few years to prove themselves.
J.B. Bickerstaff, head coach of the Detroit Pistons and president of the coaches association, called the contract a "slap in the face to our value," per ESPN.
Zoom out: Dundon already laid off roughly 70 staff members in his first month, skimped on amenities for players and balked at paying for any of the $600 million in upgrades needed at the Moda Center.
The bottom line: A lot of the ill will toward Dundon may be cured by winning, but the new owner has done little to win the favor of anyone in Rip City so far.
