Portland weekend pick: Tigard balloon festival

If you want to get high this weekend, get yourself over to the Tigard Festival of Balloons.

The big picture: More than a dozen hot air balloons will take to the air over our southeastern suburb starting today.

• The festival features early-morning launches — starting as early as 5:45am — and sunset rides tomorrow evening.
• Tethered balloon rides come free with admission, and free-floating balloon rides are available for an additional fee.
• There will also be live music, a 5k run, and a festival of cars — if you prefer your travel to be more land-based.

If you go: The festival runs through Sunday at Cook Family Park in Tigard (17005 SW 92nd Ave). Three-day passes are available for $5.
