Holiday movie favorites hit Portland theaters

Here are a few local cinemas screening cheery classics all December long.

Tomorrow Theater

Catch "Home Alone," "Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special" and "The Muppet Christmas Carol" at this offshoot of the Portland Art Museum, known for its filmmaker talks and themed events.

• Although not explicitly holiday movies, "Carol" and "Little Women" are playing there this month, too.

Reliable belly-busters like "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," Adam Sandler's "Eight Crazy Nights," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and a sing-along version of "Elf" are just a few of the family favorites playing at this movie theater chain.

Expect some of the more off-the-beaten-path holiday movies at this locally beloved indie cinema.

• The rarely screened TV movie "Sister Mary Explains It All" starring Diane Keaton; French horror film "Dial Code Santa Claus"; "Blackadder's Christmas Carol," a parody of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella; and the 1978 "Star Wars Holiday Special" are all on the lineup.
