The Oregon Legislature approved $7.5 million in emergency funds this week for Planned Parenthood, which has been blocked by Congress from receiving federal Medicaid reimbursements until at least July 2026.
State of play: The state determined the last-minute support was necessary to preventthe closure of health centers and "to sustain access to reproductive health care" for Oregon Health Plan members, according to a press release.
Oregon's 12 Planned Parenthood clinics relied on roughly $17 million in Medicaid dollars last year.
Of the nearly 100,000 patients Oregon Planned Parenthood clinics served in 2024, roughly 70% were covered by Medicaid and OHP.
What we're watching: The future of the funding.
"When the 2026 legislative session convenes, leaders will continue the work to support this essential community health care provider and the patients they serve all around our state," state Sen. Kayse Jama said in a statement.
