The Portland Thorns advanced in the playoffs with a narrow victory in the NWSL quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon.
Why it matters: The Thorns are now just one win away from a chance to play for the championship.
State of play: Portland was dominated in possession throughout the game, but kept the game scoreless through the first 90 minutes.
Then Portland broke through with a scoring header from Reilyn Turner early in extra time to secure the 1-0 victory at Providence Park.
Meanwhile, the Timbers were blown out by San Diego FC Sunday night, losing 4-0 to exit the MLS playoffs on their home pitch.
SDFC dominated with Anders Dreyer and Amahl Pellegrino each scoring two goals.
What's next: The Thorns take on the Washington Spirit at 9am on Saturday on CBS with a trip to the championship game on the line.
Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that the Thorns beat San Diego at Providence Park in Portland (not Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego) and their next match is at 9am on Saturday (not at noon).
