City officials are imploring Portland drivers to slow down as longer nights and winter weather are making roads more dangerous.
By the numbers: Some 86% of all pedestrians deaths last year occurred in darker conditions, the Portland Bureau of Transportation said in a press release.
More than half (52%) of this year's deadly crashes have happened in District 2, which encompasses much of North and Northeast Portland, where many of the city's high-crash corridors are located.
The bottom line: "Higher speeds, poor visibility, and distraction make nighttime travel especially dangerous," PBOT said in a statement.
