For those seeking comfort as we transition to darker days and longer nights, might I suggest a plate of chicken katsu curry and a bowl of house-made udon from Central Eastside's Wa Kitchen Kuu.
Best bites: The Japanese restaurant features a huge menu of cuisine staples — like chirashi bowls, red bean-filled taiyaki and Kamameshi (slow-cooked rice) — but the more hearty dishes are where it truly shines.
The hokkai-miso udon features a smattering of veggies, fish cakes and delightfully chewy noodles in a delicate dashi-salmon broth.
Meanwhile, the panko-fried chicken was super crisp yet juicy served on top of an ultra-rich — with a pickled ginger kick! — curry and drizzled with tangy katsu sauce.
If you go:Wa Kitchen Kuu (125 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd) is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 9pm.
