Fresh off playing the titular role in the Tony award-winning play "Oh, Mary!" on Broadway, Portland native Jinkx Monsoon is coming home to perform with the Oregon Symphony for one night only.
The big picture: The drag queen — who grew up going to the since-shuttered Escape nightclub and remains the only contestant to win "RuPaul's Drag Race" twice — will grace the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall next week alongside the 75-piece orchestra and conductor Edwin Outwater.
Monsoon will sing a variety of songs, including those from her original collection as well as covers that span rock, pop, cabaret and show tunes.
The vibe: Expect to be impressed by Monsoon's classic dry wit and deadpan humor, as well as her vocal versatility — from her ability to belt out theatrical ballads, then switch to whisper-soft falsetto.
If you go:Jinkx Monsoon performs at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall Sept. 10 at 7:30pm. Tickets start at $45.
Monsoon then returns to Broadway to finish out her stint playing Mary Todd Lincoln through Sept. 28.
