Grab a floatie and head to Milwaukie this weekend to celebrate the first annual "Little Float" — a celebration of the Willamette River and the city's growth.
State of play: Inspired by Portland's "Big Float" (RIP), the event encourages river recreation and spotlights several small businesses, all while raising funds for Elk Rock Island's restoration project and downtown Milwaukie's beautification efforts.
The city is currently undergoing rapid development, attracting a slew of new restaurants, commercial businesses and residential housing projects.
Plus: Milwaukie just landed a $400,000 state grant to invest in its historic Main Street.
How it works: "Little Float" participants will bring their floatation device of choice — inner tube, paddle board, kayak or raft — and hitch a ride on a boat to be ferried to Elk Rock Island.
From there, they'll float a half-mile back down to Milwaukie Bay Park at their own pace.
The vibe: There'll be food trucks, artisan vendors, live music and a beer garden.
If you go: The first annual "Little Float" is Saturday from 10am to 6pm at Milwaukie Bay Park. Tickets are $5.
