If Shakespeare wrote pop music it might sound a little like "& Juliet" — the hit jukebox Broadway musical coming to Portland's Keller Auditorium next week.
Zoom in: It's a reimagination of the tragic heroine's life if she didn't end it all to be with Romeo, but instead went on a journey of self discovery.
The sets and costume design of this show are not of the 14th century's Italian Renaissance, but of today. Expect brightly-colored wardrobes, flashing LED props, and music from Grammy-winning songwriter Max Martin.
Based on the book by David West Read, a writer on "Schitt's Creek," there will be plenty of laughs, too.
If you go: "& Juliet" will play at the Keller Auditorium Aug. 5-10. Tickets start at $74.
