The newly-renovated Albina Library will reopen this weekend with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and two days of celebrations, including dance performances, puppet theater and children's storytelling hours.
Catch up quick: The library, located just off NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and NE Knott Street, has been closed for construction since March 2023.
The $55 million project (paid for by a 2020 voter-approved library bond) to upgrade the historic 1913 Carnegie building more than tripled the square footage — for a total of 30,000 — making it the second largest public library in Multnomah County.
New features include an outdoor courtyard, a teen technology room, a new play space for kids, four additional community rooms and a much larger collection of books.
Plus: The interiors — carpets, paint and furniture — have been modernized in a warm, yellow color palette and are punctuated by artwork from Portland Street Art Alliance.
If you go: The ribbon-cutting ceremony is Saturday at 9:30am, with community events immediately following.
