Assembly Brewing pours final pint Sunday

• Johnson's pizza annex on NE Alberta will remain open "for now," according to an Instagram post from the brewery.

State of play: Assembly cut against the cloth when it opened, sticking to a 21 and over policy in a neighborhood full of families, per The New School, a publication focused on craft beer and cider.

• And though the beer was tasty, the Foster location was perhaps just as well-known for the authenticity of its pizza — square slices with charred crust and chewy Wisconsin cheese layered over the toppings.
• But the bar faced the same headwinds many in the restaurant industry have faced over the last few years — rising costs, an unpredictable market and global events beyond their control.
• "We no longer have a financial cushion to weather the storms ahead," Johnson told The New School.

My thought bubble: This closure stings because, just in the last few months, I'd become a semi-regular at the bar's weekly trivia nights.

• My team never won the trivia contest, but I left every time with a belly full of delicious pizza and beer, so there were no losers.

What they're saying: "We aimed to create a space where friends could come together, share stories and enjoy exceptional craft beer, booze and Detroit style pizza," an Instagram post from the brewery said. "We hope to cross paths again down the road."
