Oregon's energy-efficiency incentives among best in the nation

Driving the news: Oregon ranked 9th in the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy's 2025 scorecard, which looks at states' policies and programs that promote efficiency in public utilities, transportation and home appliances, among others.

State of play: Oregon has a whole host of energy-focused incentives, with money for everything from heat pumps to rural energy audits to funding for projects that make the electrical grid more resilient.

What they're saying: Julianne Thacher, a spokesperson for Energy Trust of Oregon, a nonprofit that helps people obtain incentives, said the benefits are numerous.

Yes, but: On Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order calling on the Department of Justice to stop enforcement of state and local climate policies and programs, which could put some of Oregon's incentives at risk.

• Legal experts point out that states have a Constitutional authority over their own affairs, but the president's directive could still result in litigation or a loss of federal money.
